Hiring our Scout Hall
A large open-plan room on the banks of the Derwent River in Sandy Bay.
Ideal for day functions, work meetings and training, AGMs, sales presentations and Christmas parties.
Located at Marieville Esplanade, within easy walking distance to Sandy Bay cafes and restaurants, Yacht and Sailing Clubs. Folding tables and plastic chairs for approximately 50 people.

We are a very busy group with over 100 members and 5 Scout Units (Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers using the hall every week. We love sharing the hall and leaving it in good condition at the end of every session. We love it when our hirers do the same!
Please note that our neighbours include rowing clubs. At times the area is quite busy and rowers will, at times, have an early morning start!

Who can hire?
Private Hire/Hire by Non-Commercial Bodies/Charities/Community Groups, school reunions, 40th birthdays anniversaries, children's parties, companies, government agencies for corporate meetings etc, other scout groups, scout members and, on a case-by-case basis, education / community activities.
Corporate Hire
Corporate and government groups are invited to use the scout hall for workshops/meetings.
The hall has a refrigerator, an oven, a microwave oven, a stove and toilets. Electric heating in winter ensures a comfortable environment (please note that there is a ‘winter’ heating surcharge – for details see below).
What is for Hire?
Scout equipment (including boats) is not included in the hire. Where a Scout group would like to use kayaks (with paddles and life vests), please contact the hall manager (1stderwent.hire@gmail.com) at time of booking. A small watercraft maintenance charge may be levied and any damage/loss must be rectified.
Private Hire
Private Hire/Hire by Non-Commercial Bodies/ Charities/ Community Groups
The hall is quite large and has at least 20 trestle tables and about 100 new and fairly comfortable plastic chairs. There is an oven and a microwave in a small kitchen for hirer's use. There are toilets and showers. The hallis accessible to mobility-impaired individuals.
Scout equipment (including boats) is not included in the hire.
Hall Hire Charges
Please note: rates shown on these pages are correct as at the time of publishing but may change at any stage. Please confirm rates applicable at the time of hire.
Rates are based on the hall being left in a clean condition. This includes the Hall, ablution areas and the kitchen. If additional cleaning is required, these will be passed on to the user.
Private Hire
The standard lease rate for non-scouting groups is:

$40 per hour. Discounts are available for longer periods and regular hirers. Please discuss at the time of booking.

We require a $200 bond, fully refundable if there is no damage to the hall and the cleaning conditions have been complied with.

During the winter months (April - October) a $5.00 per hour (from 7am to 5pm) and $10.00 per hour (from 5pm to 7am) heating/lighting surcharge is levied on top of the standard lease cost. A maximum of $20.00 per day is levied for heating/lighting.

Organisations interested in long-term hire (3 months or more) should contact the hall manager (1stderwent.hire@gmail.com) for details and to discuss applicable rates.
Not For Profit/Community Group/Amateur Sporting Group Hire
The standard lease rate for non-scouting groups is:

$30 per hour. Discounts are available for longer periods and regular hirers. Please discuss at the time of booking.

Scout Hire (for formal scouting activities)

Special Rates are available for scouts transiting Hobart on scouting activities. Rates vary depending on occupancy.

Seasonal heating/lighting surcharge from 1 April to 30 September of $5.00 per hour.

Insurance is required for non-scouting groups.
Conditions
Insurance
-
For insurance, the regular hall hirers must have a current certificate of public liability insurance for their organisation.

Occasional hall hirers (eg birthdays, engagements and similar events) must take out the $10m public liability insurance offered by Willis Australia Ltd. The Scout Association of Australia requires this. The current cost is $222 (August 2012).

For occasions held under corporate names, the public liability insurance may be covered by their own corporate public liability insurance. This must be verified on a case-by-case basis by sighting the insurance certificate.
Alcohol

Hire where youth members (under 18) are present, particularly for Scouting activities, exclude the consumption of alcohol.

The sale of alcohol at any event is not permitted.

Private or corporate hire where alcohol is served must advise us of this. Empty drink containers are to be removed from the hall by the hirer at the conclusion of the hire.

Any variation to the above must be agreed to in writing by the hall manager (1stderwent.hire@gmail.com).
HIRE NOT USUALLY APPROVED
We do not let the hall out for 18th and 21st birthdays; commercial ventures and activities involving the consumption of alcohol may only be approved under special circumstances (see above).
Good Neighbour Policy
Hirers should note that we like our neighbours and all hirers are asked to assist by complying with Hobart and State noise guidelines.
Please take care when driving and parking. Next to our hall, there is a children’s playground and a dog-walking park.

Very Important note about timings
When we accept your booking, it will only be for specific times.
For multi-day bookings, access to the hall might be limited to certain hours (eg from 8 am to 5 pm) to allow other hall users (particularly Scouts) to use the hall outside the specified periods.
If you need time to set up before your intended event or afterwards, you need to specify this in your request. Others hall users may well be using the hall before or straight after your booking.

Unless specifically specified, the boatshed and storage areas are out of bounds and boating equipment is not included in any hire arrangements.
