In the 1970s I started as a teacher before joining the Australian Regular Army and serving in training, operational, administrative and command roles. 

 

Following over 20 years of military service, the Department of Immigration (and Multicultural Affairs, Citizenship and Border Protection at various stages) beckoned. 

 

Postings to Jakarta and Immigration Intelligence were capped off by founding the Department's first advanced analytics capability.

 

In 2015 I decided to end over 40 years of public service and founded C21 Directions.I am a member of AlphaZetta, the independent Analytic Expert Community.

I prefer to use an agile approach to achieving an outcome. It is very rare that any design or plan can know all of the questions and answers from the start. 

 

After deciding on the strategic objective, it is usually effective to start moving in the right direction, adjust the approach progressively if needed but without losing sight of the 'end game'.
